Stratigraphic progresses on Triassic GSSPs and candidate sections
Conveners: Jinnan Tong, Li Tian, Huyue Song, Jacopo Dal Corso
A solid Triassic time scale is crucial to trace the evolution of modern-type ecosystems and the breakup of Pangea. Golden Spikes, i.e. Global Boundary Stratotype Sections and Points (GSSPs), are essential to establish stratigraphic frameworks as correlation standards. This session aims to gather experts working on stratigraphy (litho-, bio-, chemo-, magneto- stratigraphy, etc.) to discuss the state of the art on the Triassic timescale. We call for presentations on candidate sections of still undefined GSSPs (e.g., Induan-Olenekian boundary, Olenekian-Anisian boundary, Carnian-Norian boundary, etc.), but also on recent progresses on already established GSSPs (e.g., the base of the Triassic at Meishan). GSSPs and proposed candidate sections will be visited during pre-and post-meeting field trips.
