Quantifying the Biosedimentary Process in Carbonate Factories

Conveners: Xia Wang, Fei Li, Maria Mutti, Jiaxin Yan

A quantitative approach to biogenic sedimentological processes and the different carbonate factories is a promising new direction in the field of sedimentary geology. Using various sedimentary and geochemical indicators and numerical modeling techniques, as well as remote sensing methods, it is possible to quantitatively reconstruct the short- and long-term factors affecting carbonate deposition, such as light, temperature and nutrient levels, redox conditions, ocean currents and climatic evolution, and early diagenetic (shallow burial) processes. The discussion of the above issues will provide a useful reference for an in-depth understanding of the synergistic evolution of the construction of the large-scale carbonate depositional system of the Phanerozoic with the environmental and oceanic conditions.
